Deirdre Staton, Therapist, Harrisonburg

Meet Deirdre Staton, LCSW, your Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator.

Deirdre helps you move to where you want to be.

Deirdre Staton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Daring WayTM Facilitator. She works with people who want more from life and are ready to take the steps necessary to create the life they desire and deserve. Deirdre’s job is to help you break out of what keeps you stuck, and learn how to move toward your goals and dreams. She teaches practices that cultivate a more peaceful, successful, passionate and joy-filled life.

“Where are you from?”

Although born in North Carolina, Deirdre is a Third Culture Kid (TCK), which means she spent her formative years growing up outside of the United States in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. As a TCK, she moved often, experienced a variety of cultures, witnessed war, famine and the many challenges of third world cultures, saw some of the most breathtaking sights in the world and had some thrilling adventures.  While she learned to fit in anywhere, she lacked a sense of belonging. She wasn’t African. She did not feel American. She most identified with her brother and other TCK’s that came from all over the globe and questioned their own place in the world.

A quest for belonging blossomed into deep empathy as a helping professional.

As an adult Deirdre learned that even those who live in the same place their whole lives wrestle at times with fitting in versus belonging. The desire and need for authentic belonging is universal. Her deep commitment to working with people on their journey to authenticity led her to enter a helping profession. Deirdre has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia since 1998 serving the Richmond, Charlottesville, and Harrisonburg communities.

The Daring Way™ is a not just a methodology, but a personal path forward.

Dr. Brené Brown’s research has been transformative for Deirdre, opening her eyes to the fact that “playing it safe” only creates barriers to her hopes and dreams. She has experienced a growing passion for life as she practices the facets of what Dr. Brown calls “wholehearted living” while also developing resilience to the shame and fear that would keep her small or invisible.

Deirdre’s commitment to guiding growth makes her a valuable partner on your journey.

Deirdre believes we are all connected and find meaning and a greater understanding of who we are through one another. She views the therapeutic relationship as an equal partnership with you as the expert of your own life and the one who determines where the process is going. Deirdre offers her knowledge and experience to identify the possible paths to take, the skills or tools that are needed along the way and how to make the trip safely and successfully. She is honored and grateful to join clients for a portion of their life’s journey.
